Researchers Publish on Recent Neutrino Observation
Department of Physics and Astronomy researchers were part of the exciting recent announcement of the scientific observation of 28 very high-energy particle events. These events were the first solid evidence for astrophysical neutrinos which were captured with cosmic accelerators at the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, a particle detector buried in the Antarctic ice. Biology Students Give Back to Toy Drive
More than 300 students in biology classes taught by Drs. Rosianna Gray and Kim Lackey did more than learn about science this semester, they also learned how to give back to children in need. As a result of a combined class toy drive, over 2,500 toys were donated to the Daughters of Isis, the female counterpart to the Prince Hall Shriners, as part of their annual holiday toy drive. More than 80 years after the infamous case of the Scottsboro Boys, the records of the nine men who were wrongfully accused of rape may finally be cleared once and for all. Earlier this year, the state legislature passed a formal resolution exonerating all nine of the Scottsboro Boys. From the October 2013 Desktop News | Woods Quad on the UA campus now boasts a fifth large-scale outdoor sculpture courtesy of artist Lindsay Jones Lindsey, a 2012 graduate of the Department of Art and Art History. The piece is a six-and-a-half foot sculpture depicting a Fibonacci spiral with an exposed stainless steel skeleton and is part of the Woods Quad Sculpture Garden.
