Cuban News Anchor to Present Lecture at UA

Cuban news anchor Cristina Escobar will visit The University of Alabama to talk about the current climate of Cuban journalism and how it is evolving with the developing relationship between the United States and Cuba.

The lecture, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, in Farrah Hall room 214, is a part of Escobar’s visit to the United States, during which she will cover the U.S. presidential election for Cuban television. The event is free and open to the public.“Escobar is essentially the Katie Couric of Cuba,” said Dr. Robert Olin, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “We are excited to have her on campus and to learn from her expertise — especially because her visit comes on the heels of the University’s Cuba Week. Her lecture will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Cuban journalism and our nation’s relationship with her country.”
