Carol J. Pierman, Ph.D., M.F.A. - Director of Graduate Studies
Professor, Department of Women's Studies

Carol Pierman was Chair of Women's Studies from 1997 to August 2002. Prior to that, she was Director of Graduate Studies. Her specialties are American Literature and Culture, and Poetry Writing. She has published numerous books and articles, including The Age of Krypton (Carnegie Mellon University Press) and The Naturalized Citizen (New Rivers Press). She regularly teaches courses on Women and Work, and also Gender, Race, and Class. She also is a specialist in contemporary American Literature and Poetry. Prior to joining the faculty at The University of Alabama, she worked in Arts Administration and Literary Editing. She is on the Editorial Board of Women's Studies Quarterly and was recently awarded a Fellowship in Poetry Writing by the Alabama Council for the Arts, 2001. Pierman is Editor of Women and Sports (2005), a special issue of Women's Studies Quarterly.
