Department of Women’s Studies—Master of Arts Program Alumnae and Their Current Occupations

The University of Alabama Master of Arts program in Women’s Studies—the first of its kind in the South—has attained an exceptional placement record for its graduates since the degree program’s inception in 1988. All graduates are currently employed and/or enrolled full-time in terminal degree programs. A partial list of alumnae with their professional affiliations can be found below.

Juli Parker teaches Women’s Studies at UMass-Dartmouth; she has been active in the National Women’s Studies Association and is past President of National Association of Women’s Center Administrators
Rebecca White teaches at Brescia College and has directed its women’s studies program
Anne Lacsamana is on the graduate faculty and teaches Women’s Studies at
Mankato State University . Along with UA, Mankato is one of the 5 original free-standing, graduate degree-granting programs in Women’s Studies. (In fall 2005 Lacsamana will assume a similar position at Hamilton College , NY .)
Laura Savage teaches women’s studies at Universitatea Lucia Blaga, Sibiu , Romania
Martha Crownover teaches Women’s Studies at UA-Birmingham
Monica M. Alzate is Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma
Nicole Ervin Amare is Assistant Professor of English at University of South Alabama
Meta Harris is Assistant Professor Educational Leadership, Georgia Southern University
Katherine Patterson teaches Women’s and African-American Studies at Miles College
Etta Morgan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Jackson State University .
Susan Luhmann teaches Women’s Studies at Thornloe University , Canada
Kelly Finley is Instructor of Women’s Studies at University of North Carolina-Charlotte
Blakley Scott is a Consultant for the Gender Working Group, United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
Jennifer Crook Moore is a licensed practicing midwife in Birmingham , Alabama
Emily Gore is Women’s and Ethnic Studies Librarian, Joyner Library, Eastern Carolina University
Rebecca Baggett is Director of Development for the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University
Shannon Wiley is Solicitor (county prosecutor) and lecturer in Women’s Studies at the University of South Carolina
Nicole Coffin, Health Communication Specialist, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
Karla Momberger is a practicing attorney and a playwright (with a play currently in production at the York Theatre, NYC)
Sara Gilibert is Staff Attorney and Manager for Recruiting, Training, and Professional Development, Eleventh District Court of Appeals, Atlanta
Margaret Purcell, Ph.D. is a Senior Professor Development Associate in the College of Arts & Sciences, The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Ana Schuber, Prior Learning Coordinator, External Degree Program, UA
Elizabetta Scala is a teacher, translator and author. She has co-authored and translated with Liliana Losi, (above). She also runs a private school in Bologna, Italy.
Nicole Nieto is coordinator of Women’s Student Services, Multi-Cultural Center, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. Doctoral Student in Women's Studies at the Ohio State University.
Anna Mitchell is a doctoral student in Political Science and an Eagleton Fellow at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.

Beyond those who are presently working in a professional appointment, numerous alumnae are currently enrolled in terminal degree programs: these include doctoral or professional-degree programs in American Studies, English, Law, Public Administration, Public Policy in Health, Psychology, Religion, Social Work, and Women’s Studies. They have been admitted to and/or matriculated from Columbia , Emory, Vanderbilt, William and Mary, and York , Florida State, Georgia , Georgia State, Oklahoma, Bowling Green State University , University of Milwaukee, University of Mississippi, Rutgers University, Arizona State University, Carnegie Mellon University, and University of Alabama , among others.
