Students need 12 semester hours consisting of at least three hours of history. The remaining hours are chosen from history and social and behavioral sciences.

Each student must complete a six-semester-hour sequence in either literature or history. See Area II for literature equivalents.
To satisfy the purpose of general education, each student takes no more than six hours of history and social and behavioral sciences courses in a single department.
