Students need 12 semester hours consisting of at least three hours of literature and at least three hours in the fine arts. The remaining six hours are chosen from humanities, literature, or fine arts.

Each student must complete a six-semester-hour sequence in either literature or history. See Area IV for history equivalents.
To satisfy the purpose of general education, each student takes no more than six hours of humanities, literature, and fine arts courses in a single department.
