ELIGIBILITY: Deserving full-time sophomores in the College; academic accomplishments, any community service, leadership roles, and future goals and aspirations are considered; must have demonstrated outstanding achievement both inside and outside the classroom, maintained a 3.5 or above Grade Point Average (GPA), and have minimal scholarship support.

ELIGIBILITY: Alabama residents pursuing a degree in College and who demonstrate financial need, but not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
Alvie Leland Belcher Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Disabled student receiving an education the College; student shall demonstrate financial need, but not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines; explanation should be attached.
Mary Shiras Fitts Bennett Endowed Scholarship
AVAILABILITY: Awarded yearly on a rotating basis to a theatre major (2000-01) and an English major (2001-02).
ELIGIBILITY: Shall be awarded to an undergraduate of at least junior standing or a graduate student who is pursuing a degree in English or theatre; outstanding academic achievement and extra-curricular activities are also considered.
Buford Boone Scholarship in English, Journalism and Political Science
ELIGIBILITY: Three scholarships, one in each area of English, journalism, and political science are awarded; students must show academic promise as well as financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines; minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale; must be nominated by the respective departments (English, Journalism and Political Science); nominees must be juniors who will be seniors the following year.

ELIGIBILITY: Deserving full-time undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a major or minor in mathematics in the College; at least 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale; priority given to female students from, first, the Birmingham (Ala.) city school system and, second, from any Birmingham school; student must demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
Hill Ferguson and Joseph W. Sewell Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Priority is given to full-time, in-state student enrolled in the College; deserving student who is active in student life activities and holds a 3.0 GPA; a different student will receive the award each academic year and financial need shall be considered, but not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
Richard Haynesworth Gorgas Memorial Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Student from Alabama; scholarship aids in the participation in a summer study abroad program; student must submit program brochure and itemized expense report and have a creditable academic record and financial need, but not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines; student must also provide letters of recommendation.
Dr. Lauris D. and Jacqueline D. Graves Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Biology major pursuing a career in clinical medicine; priority is given to a full-time student of at least junior status; renewable.
Tommie Cotton Greene Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Deserving full-time student in the College; student must be at the sophomore level or above and a resident of Alabama intending to pursue a degree in history or library science; priority is given to a female student.
Health Center Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Deserving full-time student enrolled in the premedical program in the College.
Dr. Henry H. and Ozzie Belle Pope Herrod Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Priority is given to a full-time student who is a resident of Alabama, who attended an Alabama high school, who is enrolled in the premedical program within the College, and who intends to enroll in an accredited medical school.
Walton H. Hill Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Deserving full-time upper-class students studying abroad; recipients must be a resident of Alabama and must show financial need, but not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines; must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA; applicants must submit a program brochure and itemized expense report, have a creditable academic record, and provide letters of recommendation; equal consideration is given to outstanding upper-class students in the College.
Kappa Kappa Gamma Scholarship in the Fine Arts
AVAILABILITY: Awarded each year on a rotating basis to theatre major (2000-01), music major (2001-02), dance major (2002-03) and art major (2003-04); in addition, each year that the scholarship is awarded in art, it is given in memory of Julie Peake Holaday.
ELIGIBILITY: Full-time student pursuing a major in one of the following programs: art, theatre, music or dance; must show superior promise in the fine arts; students majoring in art education or music education are not eligible; financial need is considered.

ELIGIBILITY: Priority is given to a full-time student in his/her second, third, or fourth year of study who is pursuing a degree in the humanities, including English, art, religious studies, music, or psychology, and secondly in math or physics, or a student minoring in women's studies; renewable; applicant must demonstrate financial need and have a 3.2 GPA; applicant must provide a short narrative explaining why he/she chose his/her particular discipline.
Ruth K. Larcom Society for the Fine Arts Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Alabama high school senior; must submit a competition portfolio for review by the faculty of the Department of Art; this scholarship competition is held in conjunction with the Annual Alabama High School Art Awards each year.

Thomas E. Rast Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Priority is given to dependents of employees and full-time sales associates of Johnson-Rast & Hays Company, Inc., who are pursuing their education at the University; second consideration given to outstanding full-time students demonstrating leadership that other students strive to emulate, service to the University and the community, and an intellectual curiosity and commitment to a well-rounded education.

Grantland and Louise Rice Endowed Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY: Truly deserving, full-time American student enrolled in the College; academic quality and overall merit shall take precedence over all other considerations; applicants shall be considered by major subject area according to the following sequential order: microbiology, chemistry, biology; award shall be for one academic year, however the current recipient shall be considered as part of the selection group in competition with the other applicants for one additional year of scholarship aid; students with more than 96 semester hours will not be eligible; the eight to 10 students obtaining the highest averages in BSC 310 in the previous fall and spring semesters shall comprise the group from which the recipient is chosen.

ELIGIBILITY: Superior student pursuing a course of study in either astronomy or chemistry; consideration is given to both graduate and undergraduate students; selection is based on merit as opposed to demonstrated financial need, although the latter is taken into consideration; renewable provided the scholarship committee deems the incumbent holder to be more qualified than the other applicants under consideration.
