The Master of Fine Arts in Stage Management is offered by The University of Alabama. Enrollment in the program is limited to a maximum of two students admitted each fall. Admission to the program and awards of assistantships are based upon review of application, letters of recommendation, and an interview, usually at the U/RTA unified auditions or on-campus in Tuscaloosa. On-campus interviews should be completed by the end of February. Interviews will be scheduled at SETC only on an emergency basis.

Program Requirements

  • Stage Management (6 hours)
  • The Directing Process (6 hours)*
  • Graduate Theatre Practicum (2 hours)
  • Technical Production (6 hours)*
  • Additional courses in Management and Technical Theatre (40 hours)
    *(actual courses are variable)

Degree Requirements
A total of 60 semester hours is required for the degree. These hours must be completed consecutively for a total time in enrollment of two calendar years. Summers are included in the program and are not optional.

Graduate Assistantships
Degree candidates in this program are awarded assistantships that provide a stipend of $1212 per month and full tuition. Most student fees are waived under the auspices of the assistantship.
