STUDY AT THE HISTORIC UNIVERSIDAD DE ALCALA
The University of Alabama will again offer its intensive academic summer
program in Spain in Alcalá de Henares; a relatively small city (200,000)
located approximately twenty miles east of Madrid. Alcalá,
the birthplace of Cervantes and an educational center for central Spain
almost continuously since the thirteenth century, offers the student the
perfect environment for an introduction to Spanish life. The city
is also a half-hour train or bus ride from Madrid, the political and cultural
capital of Spain. We will take advantage of Madrid's proximity for
sightseeing and other events. There will be several excursions to
such places as Segovia, La Granja, Ávila, El Escorial, Valle de
los Caídos, Toledo, and Córdoba.
