Theta Alpha Kappa is the national honors society for undergraduates in the study of religion. The University of Alabama is home to the Alpha Gamma Zeta (AGZ) chapter
(# 103).

Since 1985, TAK has been a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, and since 1994 it has been a "related scholarly organization" of the American Academy of Religion.

Requirements

To be eligible, students must:

• meet a minimum required GPA of 3.0 cumulative and 3.5 in REL;
• have a minumum of 12 credit hours in REL;
• be nominated by the local chapter;
• pay a onetime $25 "initiation fee"
• pay $20 per year, beginning in the second year, to maintain one's status

How to Join in
Three Simple Steps...

1. If you believe that you meet TAK's requirements (see above), then please print out, complete, and submit this application form (PDF) to Prof. McCutcheon in Manly 212 (in a sealed envelope, with "TAK Application" written on the outside).

2. After your eligibility has been confirmed by Prof. McCutcheon, you will be contacted by the local chapter's Treasurer who will request that you submit your $25 initiation fee (check made payable to "Theta Alpha Kappa") and that you complete TAK's online membership form (note: our chapter code is 103). Be sure to enter Prof. McCutcheon's email address (russell.mccutcheon@ua.edu) as the "Chapter Moderator's Email."

3. The Treasurer will then forward your payment to the national office and an electronic copy of your online membership form will be forwarded to Prof. McCutcheon.

Events

• TAK is the host of the Department's monthly lunchtime discussion series (all majors and minors in the Department are invited).

• In 2008 TAK began a tradition of attending the regional conference of the American Academy of Religion. So...

We're considering attending the Southeastern Regional Conference in March 13-15, 2009--to be held this time in Chapel Hill, NC. If you're interested in attending, then speak to one of the TAK officers.

The officers are looking into whether financial assistance will again be available through UA's Student Government Association.
