Defining the Holocaust (in Hebrew: Shoah) as "the historically-validated,
legalized, bureaucratic marriage of technology and death,"
this course explores this complex phenomenon in terms of the following
perspectives: (1) the Holocaust and Historical Antisemitism: Continuities
and Discontinuities; (2) the Historical Roots of the Holocaust;
(3) Total Domination and the Practice of Genocide; (4) Responses
to the Holocaust; and (5) the Holocaust and the Future of Genocide.
Along with lectures, a series of documentary films is an integral
part of this course.
