The Academic Common Market
|
|
Because not every state's public universities offer all of
the degree programs of interest to its residents, the Southern
Regional Education Board (SREB)
developed the Academic
Common Market thirty years ago, to allow its member states
to make cooperative agreements, so that their residents could
pursue their studies in a nearby state while paying in-state
fees. The SREB is comprised of sixteen southern states, from
Deleware and Maryland in the northeast to Texas in the west.
|
|
Due to such agreements between states, residents of Delaware--a
state in which public universities do not currently offer
a B.A. major in the academic study of religion--are able to
enroll at the University of Alabama to pursue their major
in Religious Studies, without paying out-of-state tuition.
|
|
The University of Alabama is the only institution in the
state of Alabama that offers a B.A. major in the academic
study of religion.
