Annual Caption Contest:
"Make Me Famous"

Brooks Harvard, a senior in REL, has one wish before he graduates--to make it big on the Department's home page. The problem, however, is that he has done nothing to deserve such an honor, although he has threatened to come to class in his American flag Speedo.

To prevent this atrocity, and to help a young man achieve his dream, enter this year's new version of the annual cartoon caption contest, invented by the RSSA. Use one of Brook's pictures and alter it or cut him out and place him somewhere interesting and worthy of being posted on the Department's site.

Rules

1. Regardless where you place Brooks for your own private viewing pleasure, your submission must be something that your mother (or, come to think of it, Brooks's mother) would appreciate. Now that that's been said...

2. The contest is open to all majors and minors in the Department of Religious Studies. (OK, graduates as well.) Of course, members of Brooks's fraternity and all of his high school chums are free to do with the image what they will but they must declare themselves to be REL double majors to enter the contest.

3. Don't be greedy. One submission per person.

4. Employees of the International House of Pancakes may not enter. Waffle House employees, however, are encouraged to declare an REL major and enter.

Judging

Because neither Mario Lopez nor Miss America 2007's judges were available, or willing to do it, it looks like we're stuck with the officers (i.e., "tribunal") of the Religious Studies Student Association: Chris Hurt, Jennifer Alfano, and Justin "Dy-no-mite" Nelson.

Prizes

Yes, last year's caption contest ended with the winner receiving a lifetime's supply of macaroni and cheese. (Click here for more details.) The runner-up got a box set of "the Boss's" music. This year's contest will likely not be able to match such prizes but we're sure they'll be something of inestimable worth and surplus value. Then, like last year, the top award winners will be given out at the Department's Honors Day luncheon on Friday, April 6.

Submissions

Electronic submissions are due by Friday, March 30, 2007, and will be accepted at reldesk@bama.ua.edu. Each submission's email must bear the name of the person taking responsibility for it.
