Retired in 2000, Patrick E.
Green was the long-time Chair of the department. He did
a B.A. in Philosophy with Departmental Distinction at Southern
Methodist University, an M.Div. with Honors at Perkins School
of Theology, and a Ph.D. at Drew University in modern religious
thought. He has participated in seminars on the American South and
Post-Modern Religious Thought at Vanderbilt University, and the
Philosophical Consultation on Martin Heidegger in Perugia, Italy
in 1988. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion and
a Fellow of the Society for Values in Higher Education. His areas
of interest include Religion and Culture, Religion and Society,
Modern Religious Thought, and Comparative Studies in Asian and Western
Religion. Green has been nominated six times for the Outstanding
Commitment to Teaching Alumni Award, and he was an Arts and Sciences
Distinguished Teaching Fellow from 1988 to 1991.
Since retiring Dr. Green has taught in the Capstone International
Alabama at Oxford Program and the University of Alabama Honors Program.
