Graduation

CHECKLIST

Freshman Year

Sophomore Year

  • Declare a major and minor (if you haven’t already).
  • Check your progress against the academic plan you developed for your junior and senior years, and discuss with your College or major advisor the steps you need to take to graduate on time.
  • Transition from your College advisor to your faculty advisor. You’ll begin meeting with your departmental/major faculty advisor beginning in your sophomore year and continuing until graduation.

Junior Year

  • Evaluate your degree progress while you still have time to resolve any problems. Start with DegreeWorks, and if you have any questions or concerns, make an appointment with your College advisor.

Senior Year

  • During your next-to-last semester (if you want to graduate in May, that would be during the fall semester preceding May commencement), get a copy of your transcript and discuss it with your advisor. This is a good time to tidy up your academic credentials: clear up any incompletes you might have, transfer in courses taken at other schools, even declare academic bankruptcy if you had one exceptionally bad semester.
  • Also during your next-to-last semester, apply for graduation via myBama.
  • When the letter about your application for graduation arrives, review its contents and, if necessary, discuss it with a registrar in the College.
  • Early in your last semester, visit the graduation calendar on the University Registrar’s website to find out the deadlines for ordering photos, rings, announcements, and regalia.
  • Two weeks before graduation, pick up your honors stole (if applicable) at the A&S Student Services Center in 200 Clark Hall.

DEADLINES

The University Registrar maintains a current list of graduation-related deadlines on its website.
