AATSEEL HOMOPHONIC KBD FOR WIN95, Version 4.U I have edited the code in MS Windows 95s Russian keyboard layout to make it correspond to the AATSEEL Student (homophonic) standard, with a couple of modifications (some punctuation marks) I consider logical for the Anglophone. MS provides two layout files. They are kept in the windows\system subdirectory on your hard disk 1. KBDRUS.KBD comes up as "Russian" in the Control Panel/Keyboards window. (in Control Panel, double-click Keyboards. Click the Language tab. Highlight Russian. Click properties. Choose the layout you want to use). 2. KBDRUS1.KBD comes up as "Russian (Typewriter)". The two are not very different, so you can keep KBDRUS.KBD to use if you want to use the Russian layout later. STEPS: 1. Set up Russian in the Keyboard/Language window. For NOW select the "Russian" keyboard layout instead of the "Russian (Typewriter)" one. 2. In the windows\system subdirectory of your hard drive, rename KBDRUS1.KBD as KBDRUS1.BAK. If you ever want to restore the original layout, you can delete my file and rename KBDRUS1.BAK to KBDRUS1.KBD again. 3. Copy my edited version of KBDRUS1.KBD to the windows\system subdirectory. 4. Go back to the Keyboard/Language window. Now select "Russian (Typewriter)" on the Layout tab. 5. Close all those windows, go to your application and type Cyrillic the easy (American) way! Here is how the kbd layout is now set up. Its basically the homophonic one, with a couple of adjusments that reflect my preferences. (Please note: for the Cyrillic characters in the following diagrams to appear correctly, you must view this document in your word processor with a cyrillic font chosen.)
