UA Geology Club
Welcome to the UA Geology Club!
The UA Geology Club is an organization for any students, undergraduate or graduate, interested in the geosciences. Membership is not limited to geoscience majors, and non-majors are encouraged to participate.
The Geology Club organizes and sponsors speakers, events, and adventure/field trips to areas of geological interest.
The UA Geology Club is in the process of forming a welcoming committee for new geology students, by having Ambassodors assist incoming students, with learning Tuscaloosa and the campus and locating a place to live.
To join or to receive more information, please contact: Scott Milo, President at spmilo@crimson.ua.edu
Dues are $10 per semester.
Letter from the president
After a brief hiatus of activity, the UA Geology Club has recently drafted a new charter. Assembling undergraduate and graduate students, majors and non-majors alike, the club’s purposes and responsibilities have increased dramatically since its reinstatement. As it always has, the club serves as an organizer for field trips to areas of geologic interest. The club now works closely with the Alabama student chapter of the AAPG to promote seminars, speakers, events, fundraisers, etc. This department-wide cooperation offers students in the club access to a multitude of academic and recreational opportunities.
Membership is open to and encouraged for any UA student, but especially for undergraduate geology majors. Because it was formed by a close-knit group of students within the department, the club acts an open forum for students to voice their suggestions, concerns, and opinions. Teamwork is highly valued by club members, and in the past semester we have seen a healthy bond evolve between the junior and senior undergrads. Throughout trials and tribulations both in and outside the classroom, students in the department have found they have a reliable group of like-minded individuals to whom they can turn to for help when stress inevitably builds. To this end, the club is actively available for group and individual tutoring for all undergrad courses. The club also provides an open door for student employment; many club members are employed as research assistants for professors within the department and members of the professional geologic community on campus.
There are many opportunities to be derived from membership in the UA Geology Club. However these opportunities are limited based on the number of active members we have- the more members, the more we can do. For a student to be considered and active member they must pay their $10 in dues at the beginning of each semester.
We, the students of the Alabama Geology Club, believe that our program stands apart from all others. We have the privilege of working under and alongside some of the sharpest minds on campus, and have access to quality resources and equipment. We highly encourage prospective members and majors to direct any questions to the club email address (UAGeoclub@gmail.com) or to my personal email (spmilo@crimson.ua.edu).
Roll Tide Roll.
