

EN 103 Course Description:
Course Goals and Related Objectives
Outcomes
English 103, advanced or honors composition, is a one-semester course that introduces
students to the rigors of expository writing and formal argumentation. The course
emphasizes critical reading, critical thinking, and writing as synthesis, along with
unversity level research techniques and research paper writing.
Students enrolled in EN 103 must meet one of the following prerequisites:
1) Score 30 or higher on the English section of the ACT test or score 720 or higher on the verbal section
of the SAT; OR
2) Receive a grade of "A" in EN 101 and receive the recommendation of their EN 101 instructor.
Students enrolled in EN 103 based on prerequisite #1 will receive 6 hours of composition credit
for successfully completing EN 103 with a grade of C- or higher (3 hours for EN 103 and 3 hours
of composition placement credit for EN 102).
Students enrolled in EN 103 based on prerequisite #2 will receive 3 hours of composition credit
for successfully completing the course with a C- or higher.
