College of Arts and Sciences Awards

A&S Distinguished Teaching Fellowships: Recognize faculty members with outstanding records of teaching and student learning. Teaching fellows receive stipends for three years to support teaching-related projects. Faculty are selected from nominations made by their department chairs, colleagues, or students. Call for nominations is in the early spring with selection by mid-May. Past recipients

Leadership Board Faculty Fellowships: Recognize the College’s most promising or most accomplished teacher/scholars, individuals early in their careers who are demonstrating exceptional promise or faculty members who have brought distinction to the College and University throughout their careers. Nomination deadline is mid-April. Past recipients.

Leadership Board Outstanding Commitment to Students Award: Awarded at Honors Day each year to one faculty member who has shown exemplary commitment to student learning above and beyond the classroom. Recipient is selected from nominations made by the department chair, colleague, or students. Nomination deadline is in mid-February. Past recipients.

Teaching Grants: Provided to faculty to support course redesigns and other innovations in teaching, typically for summer work. University-Wide Awards

Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award: Given annually and recognizes one faculty member, one staff member, and one student who exhibit excellence of character and service to humanity. Administered by the UA Premier Awards Committee. Call for nominations made in late November; award presented in late February.

Blackmon-Moody Award: Presented annually to one faculty member judged to have made extraordinary contributions that bring credit to the individual, his or her field, and the University. Nomination deadline is mid-April. Contact Office of the Graduate School, (205) 348-5921.

Buford Peace Award: Granted to a UA faculty member whose activities demonstrate involvement in overcoming prejudice, promoting justice, and establishing peace. Administered by the School of Social Work. Call for nominations made in February with award made in the spring. More information: School of Social Work, (205) 348-7027.

Burnum Award: Presented annually to one faculty member who has demonstrated superior scholarly or artistic achievement and profound dedication to teaching. Nomination deadline is mid-October. Contact Office of the Graduate School, (205) 348-5921.

Division of Student Affairs Warner O. Moore Hall of Fame: Awarded to individuals who have made lasting contributions to student life at The University of Alabama. Deadline is March.

E. Roger Sayers Distinguished Service Award: Faculty or professional staff who have furthered the mission of the University. Nominations due by early March.

Judy Bonner Presidential Medallion Prize: Recognizes one member of the UA community who has made extraordinary contributions to the Alabama experience, positively impacting undergraduate students.

Morris Lehman Mayer Award: Recognizes one graduating senior and one teaching faculty member who exemplify the life of Morris L. Mayer: selfless and significant service and leadership for the UA community, significant contributions to student life, and integrity. Deadline is in early December.

National Alumni Association Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award: Recognizes four faculty members each year who demonstrate outstanding commitment to teaching.

Penny Allen Award: Recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the quality of student life. Nominations due by late March.

Rickey Yanaura Crimson Spirit Award: Any UA employee who helps make UA an exceptional place to work and learn. Nominations taken year-round.

Sam S. May Commitment to Service Award: Teams and departments demonstrating exceptional customer service. Nominations due by late July.

Vergil Parks McKinley Sr. Employee Award: Enterprising employees. Nominations taken year round.
