Managing RSS Web Feeds with Bloglines
Bloglines is an online reader for browsing news, blogs and other web feeds. Unlike other readers that download posts directly to a computer, Bloglines is a completely online system where new entries are updated on an automatic basis from within your Bloglines account. I. Setting up and using Bloglines Go to http://www.bloglines.com, and click on the link that says "Sign up now, It's free!" in the middle of the page. Once you have created your account you will be taken to your feeds page. On the top-left-hand side of the screen you will see your first feed that Bloglines has automatically set up for you: Note that Bloglines only keeps track of newly updated items. If you wish to save items you find interesting for later reading, you must click the 'Keep New' link at the bottom right hand corner of the respective feed stories:
II. Adding a new web feed to Bloglines Note: If you use Mozilla Firefox, there is an easier way than the method described below to subscribe to a web feed in Bloglines. If you use Firefox, proceed to the Mozilla Firefox feed tutorial. When you are on the internet, you may notice a link that looks like a To add a new feed to Bloglines, click on the "Add" link in the upper left hand corner of the Bloglines webpage.
When you click this link, a text field similar to the one below will appear in the right-hand side of the page.
You now need to copy the URL location of the webpage you wish to subscribe to into the Bloglines subscription field illustrated above and hit "Subscribe". Once you hit subscribe you will be presented with some options for setting up your feed. If, for example, you enter http://www.as.ua.edu into the subscription field you will be presented with the page below:
If you are uncomfortable changing any of the settings, don't worry as the default selections are sufficient for most situations. If the webpage you are subscribing has multiple feeds, Bloglines will give you the opportunity to choose which feed(s) you wish to subscribe to.
