WebCT
WebCT
is a web-based course management system. Here
at the University of Alabama, it is integrated with course enrollment
information taken directly from Banner. When a department opens
a section of a course in Banner, a shell for that course
is automatically created in WebCT. When you access WebCT, you should see
every course, organized by semester, for which you are the instructor.
Currently, the list goes back to Spring 2005. Students who enroll in
a course are automatically enrolled in the WebCT shell.
Entering Grades
You can use WebCT to perform a number of course-related tasks,
such as posting your syllabus, providing lecture notes, PowerPoint
presentations, and other content, as well as entering grades. You
can use WebCT for the sole purpose of entering final grades, or you can
use the grade book to record grades for all assignments and exams. If
you choose record your grades in WebCT, your midterm and final grades
will be
automatically calculated. An advantage of entering final grades in
WebCT rather than through myBama (which links to Banner) is that you
can easily change a grade in WebCT until the submission deadline. On
the other hand, in myBama, you cannot change a grade after it has been
submitted; instead; you must complete a Change of Grade
form.
The Faculty Resource Center (FRC) provides support for using WebCT.

WebCT Campus Edition or WebCT Enterprise (Vista)?
The University plans to migrate from WebCT Campus Edition 4.1 to
WebCT Enterprise (or WebCT Vista) in Fall 2007. Contact
the FRC if you would like to begin working with WebCT Enterprise.

Turnitin
Turnitin is an Internet-based plagiarism detection and prevention
service. Instructors may submit students' papers to Turnitin as individual
files, a bulk upload, or a ZIP file. In addition, instructors can
set up the
assignment analysis options so that each student can review an
originality report before the final submission. There is also a
peer-review option that may be beneficial.
