UA Student Receives Boren Scholarship to Study in Brazil
From the UA News Center | University of Alabama student Sean Atchison has received a Boren Scholarship for the study of languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Atchison, of Chatom, will study Portuguese in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with an emphasis on Brazilian culture, history and politics. New Book From UA Professor Investigates Cross-Cultural Body Modification
Dr. Mairin Odle’s book “Under the Skin: Tattoos, Scalps, and the Contested Language of Bodies in Early America” looks at body modifications as signs of alliance or conflict in the interactions between Natives and newcomers in 17th and 18th-century North America.
