The Blount Undergraduate Initiative seeks students who have a love of learning, who want to learn both inside and outside the classroom. Blount Initiative students enjoy discussion, get excited about new ways of looking at the world, and are thoughtful about their experiences. Excellent candidates for the Blount Initiative may have high grades and test scores or they may not. This application is designed to help us get to know you and the qualities and abilities, beyond grades and scores, that will make you a successful Blount Scholar. Please respond to the questions below in ways that allow us to learn about you, your ideas on different issues, and you experiences. If using "I" in your responses makes this easier for you, please feel free to do so.

Please select three of the four questions below and write a two to three paragraph response to each. Please number and attach your responses to the application.

1. What is the best book that you have ever read? Why do you think it is the best?

2. Tell us about an event, big or small, in your family or community that changed your life. How did it influence who you are today?

3. Which paper, project, or performance did you do in the last year that really engaged you? What did you do, how did you approach it, and what general ideas did you gain from this?

4. Tell us about something that fascinates you, something that you are amazed and intrigued by, and tell us why.

Fill in a blank piece of paper (8.5 x 11) in a way that is distinctively yours and send it in as the last page of the application.
