Dr. Juan Lopez-Bautista
organized and led a discussion group on the Molecular Systematics of Algae
at the University of La Habana, Cuba, during the week of February 2nd - 8th.
The venue was the Centro de Investigaciones Marinas, and several scientists,
including some from remote parts of Cuba, attended the discussion group. This
PhycoLab project is being sponsored by the Alabama-Cuba Initiative.

Mike Sandel presented their research at the Southeastern Fishes Council annual
meeting, and received first runner up and second runner up awards, respectively.
Brooke's title was "The Influence of Historical Gene Flow and Contemporary
Population Translocations on Genetic Diversity in the Endangered Watercress
Darter, Etheostoma Nuchale, Inferred From Multiple Microsatellite
DNA Markers," and Mike's title was "Conservation Genetics of Metapopulations:
A Case Study of Elassoma alabamae."
