| This program is supported by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate
Biological Science Education Program and is open to rising juniors majoring in Biology,
Microbiology, or Chemistry at The University of Alabama or Stillman College. The 11 students
accepted into this program will participate in a two year program of independent research,
which includes a visiting scientist speakers series, a summer and spring research symposium,
and travel to present their research at professional meetings. |
| The program starts off with a three-week workshop on the processes of science, inquiry, and
discovery. During the second week of the workshop, Hughes Interns begin their summer ten-week
research project under the guidance of faculty mentors. In the following academic year, Hughes
Undergraduate Research Interns will continue their research and will benefit from a joint
visiting scientist series on the campuses of The University of Alabama and Stillman College.
Hughes Research Interns are eligible to apply for a second year of internship. |
