through Fellowships, Research Assistantships, or Teaching Assistantships.
Consideration for Aquatic Biology Enhancement Fellowships and Teaching

Aquatic Biology Enhancement Fellowships carry an annual stipend
of $15,000 for up to two years, as well as a grant to pay full tuition.
These fellowships support research which bridges biodiversity studies
and ecosystem processes.
IGERT Fellowships carry a $27,500 annual stipend for two years
as well as a grant to pay full tuition. Support for this interdisciplinary
program in Freshwater Sciences (aquatic ecology/systematics, environmental
geology, and hydrology) comes from the National Science Foundation.
National Alumni Association Graduate Fellowship in Aquatic Biology
carries a 9-month stipend of $11,000 plus tuition, and is awarded
to a student from the state of Alabama pursuing a degree in an area
of aquatic biology.
Graduate Research Assistantships are available for students who
work under the supervision of professors on grant-supported research.
Annual stipends range from $12,000-$16,000.
Graduate Teaching Assistants receive an annual salary of: M.S.
$12,122; Ph. D. $13,122; or Ph.D. in candidacy $14,622. These assistantships
include full paid tuition. In addition, GTAs are eligible to compete
for the Hill Summer Fellowship ($2,500); Outstanding Performance
Summer Fellowship ($1,000), Dean's Enhancement Award ($6,000).
Graduate Council Fellowships are competitive across the university.
Each carries a stipend of $14,000 for the academic year, as well
as a grant to pay full tuition. In addition, several of these awards
are supplemented by $5,000 for students with exceptional academic
credentials. Students enroll for 12 hours of credit per term during
the academic year.
