Thank you to all those who helped make the 2008 Arty Party a huge suceess. The College raised more than $35,000, a record for the event. Proceeds will provide School of Music students with new instruments and support scholarships, and to help fund priority academic needs in other fine and performing arts departments in the College. Since its inception in 2003, the Arty Party has raised more than $120,000 for the College’s fine and performing art departments.
The blast from dozens of horn instruments and the rapid rumble of drums filled the Four Points Sheraton on the evening of April 4 as guest of the 2008 Arty Party clapped along to the Million Dollar Band’s rendition of “Yeah Alabama.” The band, part of the School of Music, made a surprise appearance at the Arty Party, an annual event sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Board to benefit fine and performing arts programs in the College.
The 2008Arty Party, which featured the School of Music, was themed “A Night at the Moulin Rouge.” Guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and music performed by faculty and students from the School of Music. They also bid on more than 75 one-of-a-kind auction items including art by William Christenberry, fine dinners, trips, and the opportunity to conduct the Million Dollar Band at a Crimson Tide home football game.
