Cherish: Selections from the Permanent Collection

The gallery’s Permanent Collection primarily features contemporary art
that is executed as works on paper and includes drawings, prints and photographs.
Each year there are gifts and acquisitions to our collection which enrich our
holdings of contemporary art.

Robert Colescott: Troubled Goods
November 8 - December 7, 2007
This exhibition by one of America’s most important artists, Robert Colescott,
contains selections paintings and works on paper from the last ten years of
a career spanning more than fifty years. Colescott is represented in many public
collections including: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney
Museum of Art and Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Colescott was
selected to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale in 1997. He
was the first African-American artist to be featured in a solo exhibition at
the Venice Biennale.

Department of Art Faculty Exhibition
January 3 - February 3, 2008
This biennial exhibition features works of art created
by the current studio faculty, emeritus faculty and adjunct faculty members
of the Department of Art at The University of Alabama. Works included
represent the mediums of Photography, Sculpture, Printmaking, Painting, Drawing
and Ceramics. Work
in the exhibition ranges from the contemporary minded to the figurative, from
the narrative to the design-based.

Pace Prints: A Survey of Contemporary Artists

he Farley Moody Galbraith Endowed Exhibition for
2008 features a survey of works from the prestigious fine art print publisher,
Pace Prints. Pace has set the standard for fine art prints since 1968 and is
celebrating its 35th year in collaboration with leading artists in the production
and exhibition of printed works. Pace has produced works by over 100 artists
including Claes Oldenburg, Richard Serra, Chuck Close, Louise Nevelson, Romare
Bearden, and Helen Frankenthaler.

Funding support for the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art comes from
the Department of Art and the College of Arts & Sciences
at The University of Alabama. The SMGA is centrally
located on Woods Quad at 103 Garland Hall. Gallery hours
are 9:00am - 4:30pm
